Smart Hotel

Hotels are great consumers of energy. They have to look warm and inviting in Winter, and in Summer, they’re cool for comfort. The trouble is that more often than not, they’re too hot, or too cold. When guests adjust their room temperatures, they have no idea whether their settings are typical, or extreme, in comparison with other guests.

Shaspa - Shared Spaces, Smart Building, Smart Home, Smart Instrumentation

Shaspa not only provides the tools to compare and adjust energy settings, it creats the idea of a  “Social Meter”, that allows management to tempt guests with incentives to reduce their energy consumption. It seems like a simple idea: give a free night in the hotel or a free meal to the guest with the lowest energy use each day; but you need Shaspa to do it. Here’s how:

Shaspa collects energy readings from the whole building, including guest rooms. It’s a flexible, inclusive system, easily connected to the hotel’s booking database. So it knows who’s in each room, and it knows how much energy they’re using. It’s a simple process to find out which guest is the most frugal.

And because it’s connected to the booking database, it won’t award the prize to an empty room. When a guest leaves, it can turn down the heating and air conditioning in the room they’ve just vacated.

The potential for saving energy in hotels is enormous. As hotels become more and more competitive, they need to look at ways to reduce energy costs.
